Curraghmore House Receives GLAS Scheme Funding to Restore Traditional Estate Boundary Walls At Clonagam and Sallyhene.

Earlier this year we applied to GLAS to repair and restore some boundary walls that have collapsed over a period of time. We were fortunate enough to be granted funding to allow us to return the walls to their former glory.

The 11 miles of traditional stone walls that surround the estate are a visual historical landmark to the area and have been identified as of local historical importance. The majority of these walls were built during the time of the 3rd Marquis and his wife Louisa in the mid 1800’s.

As with any restorative work of this kind, a team of experienced work masons are required, using traditional methods to restore the damaged walls.  The original stone was reused from site, which would be of particular importance to us in our commitment to conservation practices. The walls were rebuilt using lime and mortar and those completed to date are restored authentically.

The family are grateful for all the guidance and assistance given to them by the Heritage Council and the Department of Agriculture. See below the repaired walls situated at Clonagam and Sallyhene.  See below the Clonagam wall prior to works being carried out.
